TOGETHER ALONE was born from one family’s quiet but profound wish: to create a summer house that never feels too small for twelve - or too big for two. Set on a gently sloping plot near the sea, the home embraces the natural rhythms of the land. The incline gave us a chance to work with levels - creating soft transitions between openness and intimacy, between gathering and retreat.
From the start, the vision was clear: a home where three generations could be together, and still have room to withdraw. The house unfolds as a cluster - a main house and a guest house - linked by a shared wooden terrace. Like a small village, each structure holds its own scale and atmosphere.
Depending on who is there and how the house is used, it quietly expands or contracts. The architecture is adaptable, responsive - always enough, never too much. Inside, warm tones recall the family’s years in the Middle East. Sand-hued walls, sun-soft stone, and desert-inspired textures bring with them a quiet heat — a way of carrying the warmth of memory back to Scandinavia.
Throughout, there are small places to pause. Nooks for reading. Steps for sitting. Sheltered corners where the sky becomes the only companion. The house has a humble presence - soft-spoken, grounded, gently folded into the landscape. It belongs as much to the earth as it does to those who dwell within it.
For us, TOGETHER ALONE is a study in balance. Between solitude and togetherness. Simplicity and soul. Architecture that doesn’t just hold space - but shapes the life unfolding inside it
